Figures recently revealed show that employment tribunal claims were up 30 percent in the year 2007 to 08. There were 189303 claims accepted in 2007 to 08, the 2006 to 07 figure was 132577.

Many critics will suggest this increase is a direct result of the ill fated Disciplinary and Grievance Procedures introduced in 2004. These are being repealed from April this year.

Practitioners and commentators alike will wait with interest to see if their repeal will bring about the hoped for reduction in employment tribunal applications.
