Tribunal Advert Causes Outrage
The Judicial Appointments Commission has sparked controversy after placing advertisements for Tribunal Judges (formerly Chairmen) who would uphold workers’ rights. The advert read, “We all know somebody who has been unfairly treated at work, If you are a barrister, solicitor or fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives and have a passion for upholding the rights of workers, then why not consider a move into the Employment Tribunal?"
Employment tribunals are supposed to be unbiased in their application of employment law in Britain. Whist the JAC after questioning from the Telegraph’s Joshua Rozenberg agreed to re write the advert employers will be alarmed at the perception that this is a tribunal’s function.
A full time Tribunal Judge earns £101,400 a year.
With an increasng number of applications being made to employment tribunals, it is vital to have expert representation. Xact's core services in HR Management and Employment Law are supported by an Indemnity. The Indemnity protects the employer against the costs involved in defending an employment tribunal and provides cover for awards made by an Employment Tribunal or settlement under the auspices of ACAS.
