The Daily Telegraph recently reported a strange case where officials at West Kent College in Tonbridge, had sent an email to students informing them that wolf whistling and making comments to builders who were working on a £94 million building project at the campus. You really couldn’t make it up, could you?
However, on a much more serious note, the same article also reports that wolf whistling could see offenders placed on a sex offenders register. The Sexual Offences (Scotland) Bill creates a new offence of communicating “indecently” punishable by up to ten years in jail. The legislation intends to punish sexual harassment by means of text, emails or correspondence. Ministers have suggested that this would also include explicit sexual comments to strangers.
