Queen’s Speech Changes Announced

A number of changes to employment law have been announced in the Queen’s Speech. At last there will be a single Equalities Act which will bring together nine major pieces of legislation under one statute.

Employees will also be able to obtain more information in respect of colleague’s pay. This  measure will be aimed at reducing the gender pay gap.  Thirty Nine years after the Equal Pay Act was enacted there is still a significant differential between men and women’s pay

Contrary to some reports there was no announcement of any plans to extend the rights to flexible working.

There will be a separate Bill by 2010 giving up to 25 million workers the right to request time off for training
