NHS employees who are made redundant from the 1st October 2006 will receive a redundancy package which is no longer dependent on their age.
The previous redundancy and early retirement provisions contained a number of bands which were dependent on employee’s age in order to calculate the benefit to which they were entitled.
Under the new arrangements, all employees will receive a flat rate of one month’s pay for every year of service with a maximum of 24 months. Furthermore, employees who are over the minimum pension age will be entitled to retire early with no reduction in their pension entitlement.
NHS Management said the new arrangements were introduced as a result of the new age discrimination legislation.
While this entitlement will be of benefit to NHS employees, it is in excess of the statutory minimum entitlement, further details of which can be obtained from contacting a member of our consultancy team. |
