It has been announced by the Government that the minimum holiday entitlement under the Working Time Regulations 1998 will increase from 20 days to 28 days per annum.
Currently some employers include the 8 public holidays within the 20 day entitlement. The increase will now mean that they can no longer do this and the additional 8 days will require to be added to their entitlement. The DTI have indicated that they believe this change will benefit 6 million workers in the UK.
It should be noted that the change will take place in 2 stages, the first taking place on 1 October 2007 when the entitlement will increase from 20 days to 24 days, with the second change taking place on 1 October 2008 when the entitlement will then increase from 24 days to 28 days. |
