As more and more employers call for less onerous rules in handling employment disputes, it appears that the government are considering adding another step to the statutory procedures.
The DTI has confirmed that compulsory mediation was being considered. If this is adopted, it would create an extra hurdle for staff and employers before getting to an Employment Tribunal.
The move is seen by the government as a cost saving initiative, however, it is likely to anger employers who believe that there is too much emphasis on following the correct procedure, rather than dealing with the real issue of the grievance. |
