At the moment, the parents of children who are under 6 or disabled children under 18 have the right to request Flexible Working. The Government has now published regulations, which will come into force on 6 April 2007, which will extend this right to certain carers of adults.
The Flexible Working (Eligibility, Complaints and Remedies) Regulations 2002 provide that an employee may make a formal request for flexible working, if the employee is or expects to be caring for a person who is over the age of 18 and in need of care, and who is either married to or the partner or civil partner of the employee; a relative of the employee; or living at the same address as the employee.
It should however be noted, that in order to benefit from these regulations, an employee needs to have a qualifying period of 26 weeks’ continuous employment. |
