Attorney General Fined for Breaking Illegal Workers Laws

The Attorney General, Baroness Scotland, has been fined £5000 after admitting employing a housekeeper not entitled to work in the UK.

Ironically, Scotland, who is the Government’s chief legal adviser, helped pilot the legislation through parliament when she was an employment minister.

Under the law, it is incumbent upon the employer to ensure that they have satisfied themselves that the employee is legally entitled to work in the United Kingdom. Where documents are presented it also incumbent upon employers to keep copies of any documents they have been provided with.
