Age Concern Loses First Stage of Discrimination Challenge
The Advocate General, in a preliminary opinion for the European Court of Justice (ECJ) has ruled against Heyday, a part of Age Concern, that the UK could not have a default retirement age of 65.
The Advocate General has ruled that as long as the policy is objectively justified and is compatible with national law then it is not unlawful under European law
The Opinion is not binding on the full Court, which is expected to make a full ruling before Christmas. |
